MY BIBLE STUDY

The Holy Bible, the good book, the very cornerstone of western civilization, right? This is the book which we have to put our left hand on and hold our right hand up to the square and swear to tell the truth in a court of law. It is the book that the president of the United States takes holds when he takes his oath of office. It is the basis of all the christian teachings in all schools everywhere. This is certainly the most revered book in our culture and has been that way for centuries.

 

So, how come I have not read it?

 

Oh, sure, I have read parts here and there, heard lots of quotations, and been taught all the stories. But I have now come to the conclusion that it is time for me to get my own interpretation of what is actually written there.

 

Let me state right here that I do not currently have in my possession a copy of bible, nor do I wish to go out and get one. In these times, we can do so much better than that. With all the controversy about this translation and that translation, it is just not good enough to read only one version if you are going to really get a balanced viewpoint. Solution: on line bibles of course. The Bible Gateway is a great website, and you can read the text and flip to other translations of the same passages with ease and so compare and come up with a pretty reasonable overview.

 

So this is what I started to do and am continuing to do as time permits. I find it not enough to really grasp what is going on in the story by just one reading through, so I am making a study of the texts, and writing down what I read and my interpretations as I go along and in this way I can remember the stories so much better. So, now in this section of Wheeling Circles, I will continue to add my “homework” from my bible studies.
